Andrew Knewstubb (Stubby)

The following video on AllBlacks.com shows Andrews incredible story and provides some insight to his growing passion for carving.

Andrew (iwi - Ngāpuhi) started woodworking when he was a ‘young fella’ doing stuff in the work shop with his old man. His dad (Stubby Snr) showed him a lot but also left a lot for Andrew to work out on his own, which was frustrating at first as it took a lot of learning.

The Māori influence came into Andrew’s mahi later, when he started to learn more from the stories told through whakairo carving.

With so much of Māori influence around Aotearoa, it was easy to be inspired.

“I’m still learning lots and am a long way off a master carver but really enjoying it, and I hope other people do too.” - Andrew.

How to work with Andrew - Make an order.

Step 1. Send him a message via his Instagram page https://www.instagram.com/stub8ys/

Step 2. Try to be as specific as possible about what you want. What would you like represented in your piece, and also why?

Step 3. If you are not sure, no worries. Message Andrew anyway, and he will think about what might work, working with you until you are ready. The process may take a little longer, but the goal is to create that special piece of work you both can be proud of.
